Will wonders never cease... [Jun. 27th, 2005|01:52 pm]

I think i've just died of shock. A CONSERVATIVE JUST SUPPORTED SAME-SEX CIVIL MARRIAGE! And it was the best argument for same-sex marriage i've ever heard, and i've heard quite a few arguments. Gerald Keddy just supported the liberal's bill. This is like.... an NDP being against same-sex marriage...

Sunshine and Happiness [Jun. 24th, 2005|05:22 pm]

Today was a very good day. The sun was out and it was gorgeous. I drove my sister to her driving lesson, and while I was waiting for her i went to Starbucks and read a paper and had my caffeine. While reading the paper I discovered two things: caffeine is really bad for you if you have high blood pressure, and the liberals, NDP, and Bloc joined together to pass the budget bill, much to the Conservatives' chagrin. This is not good news... I love my caffeine, and apparently I should be giving it up. But, the budget bill was a good thing, even though I am surprised (somewhat) by the Bloc's change of opinion. They do want the same-sex legislation passed, and the budget bill does have some things in it that they want done, but they were firmly against the budget bill, and the government. The conservatives just got betrayed though. That is another blow which they really do not need, and I have a feeling the conservatives will not easily forgive the Bloc for this betrayal.

I got a letter from Taryn today! That had to be the best part of today.

This has been a good week. I'm starting to get better at enjoying my summer, and quiet time alone.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. [Jun. 20th, 2005|08:16 pm]

I think that right about now, the conservatives are feeling like that's their motto. If they take down the government on the NDP budget bill, they might end up losing an election anyways because of their lack of support right now. But, if they support it to try and get back support, they will lose some of their followers because of a lack of conviction. If they get rid of Stephen Harper, they could end up with a more charismatic leader, but the public will not have much time to get to know the new leader, and hopefully like him. If they keep Stephen Harper they risk not getting support back up because of his bad image. I do sympathize with them. The party is in a very tough spot with some hard decisions ahead of them.

[mood |contemplativecontemplative]

Today was a good day, surprisingly. I took Erin into Coquitlam to get her present for my dad. She got him Stargate SG-1 season seven. Incidentally just as I left rez i had just finished season six, so I have this urge to rip it open and watch it myself.

I got to go see alaina this evening! It was a lot of fun. I haven't seen her since finals. Shopping and dinner. Right now i'm very alert, having had a latte and a very sugar-filled desert at dinner. It was great to see her though.

I had to go to chapters to get my dad a book for fathers day (Enterprise...he keeps stealing my star trek books so I figured it was high time he had one of his own). I went and looked at the politics books. I have discovered I am weak next to a good politics book. More powerless than I am before shoes or cute shirts. I got this awesome-looking one called Cretien and Canadian Federalism: Politics and the Constitution, 1993-2003 by Edward McWhinney. It was really sad, the lack of canadian politics books they had there. There was: a shelf and a half of canadian; two whole sections of american books minus the shelf and a half of canadian; and lastly one section of international books. Truly unfortunate. So that makes two politics books, starting my collection. Along with an already growing stack of newspapers....

I'm having my last conversation with Taryn right now. I'm doing ok with this I think. It was good I saw Alaina today, I think that helped. Tonight I won't be upset or attempt to make a fight with anyone, I promise. I am going to attempt to watch Stargate Atlantis Rising. I am attached to the original Stargate cast, but I will give this a try.

Little Known Fact: In Newfoundland when you get your learners driving permit, you are not required to have anyone with you in the car as a supervisor or instructor. The only restriction is that you do not drive before midnight. You get to learn how do drive all on your own, trial and error way. That's a scary thought!

Some things I just can't say.... [Jun. 17th, 2005|10:56 pm]

Tommorow is the last day that Taryn will be here. I just realized that earlier today. Then I started to feel sad. I am happy for her. She gets to do this awesome thing. I tried to make myself angry, but that didn't work. I will admit when i'm sad. I know how to deal with being upset. What I can't admit? When i'm scared. Because I don't know what to do with that.
